Good Morning

I have been a customer with Nationwide for 4 years. Last year when I remortgaged I enquired about topping up my mortgage this year as my daughter is getting married. They said they didnt see a problem. I didnt want to take the money at the time becuase I wanted to wait until nearer August, for the wedding.

I have since changed jobs and had to take a cut in income. I went back to Nationwide to be told that they have changed the way they lend when dealing with mortgages. They now cant lend me the money. My mortgage is £71,000, I was looking to borrow £3,000. The lady said she would check if I could get a personal loan through the bank. I didnt have time to wait, I dont like the thought of taking out a personal loan with a bank.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

P

Hi purple63,

Check your mortgage terms, sometimes mortgages have a draw-down facility, as a part of the existing mortgage. Ask them again, that when you remortgaged it was discussed and if your mortgage terms and conditions are the same, they shouldn't object. However, if it was not taking into account when you remortgages, then may be you will need to have a secured or unsecured mortgage.
