I am at the end of a fourteen month tenancy. My landlord want me to pay for frayed carpets which were as a result of the vacuum cleaner catching them due to the edges not being properly fitted. Does anyone have any advice on the legality of this deduction please?

Generally landlord is within his rights to deduct for any financial loss suffered, but there are lots of factors that could impact the outcome. Did you sign the inventory when you moved in? What does your agreement say about any damage? Did you bring the above to your landlords attention when you noticed that it was difficult to hoover w/t catching the carpet?
