The housing crisis has become so acute in London and the South East that that something must give. Building on green field sites will never go down well with the general public but many people now see no alternative to developing green field sites.A wise man once said, "Buy land and wait, but, never wait to buy land." What this meant is that, since the value of land is always appreciating, if you keep waiting, you will always pay more for the same land later on. So, always buy the land first and only then wait.

The only problem is, you never know for how long you will have to wait. Escpecially in the South of England, there is not enough land to build on, but it doesn't mean that land in the Green Belt will be released any time soon. I also think that it will come to it, but may be not during our lifetime, so it is a gamble. For anybody with a bit of a spare cash it is certainly worth considering, but if you are planning for your investment to mature in time for retirement, then you can't rely on it.
