Hi there! As ever, hope for some useful tips and info from you all! Is it true that student lets are exempt from HMO licensing? A friend of mine is in the process of making enquiries for her son who is due to start uni in september and wants to ensure his accommodation complies with all the necessary requirements.

Hi! I understand that some student properties are exempt from HMO licensing. It does not meant that the lanldlords can get away with anything (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) No, such properties are usually managed by the universities, colleges, etc themselves and follow the relevant code of practice.

You would not happen to know what code of practice the educational authorities must follow when managing their properties, Lisa?

I think, the Universities UK has some sort of code of practice setting out minimum standards as far as property repair, health and safety issues, etc are concerned.
