Since we started discussing houme improvement, i would really like to discuss planning permissions. Are there somewhere simple rules of when one needs to apply for a planning permission. For example, I would like to move the door leading to my kitchen from the left corner towards the middle. I asked two different builders and one surveyor: two of them said i did not need a planning permission and one of them said i did. Who is right?

I heard that planning permission rules have been eased a little bit as some people, not being able to move, turned to improving their existing properties and creating more space. Would be interesting to know what kind of improvements/changes (as stated above) could be undertaken w/t seeking planning permission.

When I think to develop new house I always prefer to contact with architects. I sit with architects then I plan for new house structure and I will also suggest you to contact with architects.

I understand that one needs an architect when planning to build a new house or extension. But if its nothing structural like moving the door or convertin the loft, would have thought you can get away w/t an architect.
