OK, I have a question regarding what happens if I were to be given a prison sentence. Basically I would be interested in knowing what would happen to all my property. Say I show up at court and am given a 2 month sentence. This would result in me being unable to pay my rent and my landlord would then want to rent my place to someone else. So what happens to all my property? Do I just loose it all or what?

Also is it true that I would only serve half of my sentence, so if I got two months I would only do one month inside and then another month on license?

Thanks

Hi, if you are on remand housing benefit will be paid for up to 52 weeks, if you are committed to prison, housing benefit will be paid if the sentence is 13 weeks or less. You do not need to inform them before you go to court or prison, but you need to tell them what has happened ASAP.
If you pay your own rent because you are working, then you will need to fill out a housing benefit claim form, but only post it if you a prison term is likely, you can always cancel the claim if you are not sentenced.
Only half of a prison sentence is served inside the other half is served outside on license unless the term is for 4 years or more then your freedom depends on the parole board.
