Brits Choose Not to Buy Car Insurance

Over 30% of UK car owners drive uninsured, reveals a report by Motor Insurers' Bureau.

The latest report by Motor Insurers' Bureau suggests that almost one third of motorists in the UK drive without car insurance. Even though the organisation has records of all insured vehicles in the country, its report is primarily focused on drivers from Birmingham, Essex, Manchester and West Yorkshire.

According to estimates of Motor Insurers' Bureau, there are 1.4 million uninsured drivers on UK roads. Meanwhile, they are responsible for 23,000 injuries and 160 deaths every year. Also, it is because of uninsured drivers that honest car owners have to pay £30 in excess of the annual insurance policy.

Commenting on the findings, Ashton West of Motor Insurers' Bureau, said that Brits "cannot stand by and let uninsured driving continue, otherwise the honest motorist will keep paying the bills for the injury and damage caused to people and property."

Let us remind that the Office of Fair Trading has already launched an investigation of UK insurance companies to find out whether increases in car cover premiums are justified.
