Car Insurers to Fight Fraudsters in 2011

According to the latest report published by Which, UK-based independent consumer group, the average cost of fraudulent car insurance claims totalled to £800 million in 2010.
Commenting on the study released by the Association of British Insurers (ABI), Which? experts said that although fraud home protection claims top the list, fake car claims are also widespread.
Mr. Starling of the Association of British Insurers warned fraudsters that "insurance cheats do not prosper – they can expect to get caught, face problems getting future insurance and risk getting a criminal record." He highlighted that the industry plans to intensify the war against cheaters and, thus, to prevent honest customers from overpaying for their car cover.
As for now, an average sum that is added annually to the premiums of legitimate customers due to fraudulent claims amounts to £44.
