UK Car Insurance Will Become Mandatory in June

The British Department for Transport recently launched an awareness campaign, which aims to inform UK drivers that soon it will be illegal to not only drive an uninsured vehicle, but also to own it.

The changes will come into force on June 20th, 2011. Ads will appear on satellite and terrestrial TV channels so that all UK drivers are aware of the new rules.

Commenting on the upcoming changes, Mr. Penning, UK Road Safety Minister, said that not only uninsured drivers are dangerous, but they also cost honest people over £500 million in premiums.

According to the new car insurance rules, drivers owning an uninsured vehicle will face a £100 fine and more severe actions should it remain uninsured.

Those willing to check whether their vehicle is on the database are welcome to visit the official website of MIB. It allows for a free check for everyone.
