Debt Collection Agency Warned by the OFT

Debt Collection Agency Warned by the OFT

Aktiv Kapital, a Norway-based debt collection agency, has been recently warned by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) over pressure practices .

The organisation imposed new requirements on the company, which is expected to improve its communication and debt collection methods. In case it does not comply with the OFT requirements, it will be fined for up to £50,000.

The Office of Fair Trading found out that Aktif Kapital has been in breach with its regulations by chasing disputed debts and using unreasonable pressure over its clients.

In future, the Norway-based company should make sure that it does chase customers, who have notified it in writing that the debt is disputed, as well as that it does not use threats and pressure.

Commenting on the situation, Mr. Watson, director of consumer credit group at the OFT, said: "we have taken action against Aktiv Kapital to address unsatisfactory practices and protect vulnerable consumers. Requirements have been imposed to ensure that these practices are not repeated."
