Google Closes Its UK Mortgage Comparison Website

Earlier, we have already reported that Google has purchased a UK-based comparison website BeatThatQuote for almost 40 million dollars. In only a few month, the Internet giant started working on its own mortgage comparison portal, UK Compare Mortgages.

The company did not make any official statements about the new website. In September 2011 the website was suspended, but the company confirmed the information only recently. Google said that the comparison service was scaled back not only in the UK, but in other countries as well in November. In February 2012 the service was closed completely.

Commenting on the company's move, Google's spokesperson said: "We have been prioritising our product efforts, which means taking a hard look at products that have not been as successful as we would have hoped. We have closed down the mortgage search feature."

Other price comparison websites are still functioning properly.
