UK Insurers Advise Pipe Protection

Winter in the UK can bring really drastic consequences for home owners, and this is why insurance companies recommend take preventive measures.
Aviva, one of the leading UK insurers, advises pipe protection in winter. Last winter, the company saw a significant increase in the number of claims associated with cold weather. Overall, there was a 600% rise in the number of weather-related claims. Of these, 60% accounted for burst pipes.
According to the estimates of the Association of British Insurers (ABI), UK insurers helped 450,000 customers last year. Of these, 103,000 had claims for burst pipes.
On average, the cost of repairs of the burst pipes amounted to 8,000 pounds. Other expensive damage that unprotected pipes can bring is ceiling collapse.
“Freezing and burst pipes can be a real problem - in some cases ruining entire floors of your home. The risk can be worse in traditional properties without modern heating systems or properly insulated pipes,” said Rob Townend of Aviva.
