Brits Expect House Prices to Grow

The latest Halifax Housing Market Confidence Tracker report suggests that more Brits expect house prices to rise than to fall.

As such, over 30% of survey respondents said that UK property values will grow in the next 12 months. The proportion of those who said they will fall reached 23%. The remaining 47% said they were not sure.

It is interesting to note that almost half of respondents, regardless of their views on house price trends, believe that the price movement will be insignificant and should not exceed 5%. As many as 25% of respondents said that house price increases or decreases might go over 5%.

Commenting on the results of the poll, Suren Thiru of Halifax stated the obvious: "More Britons expect house prices to rise rather than fall over the next year." He also warned that "confidence in the UK housing market is likely to remain subdued over the coming months, given consumers' concerns over the outlook for the UK economy in general, and the jobs market in particular."
