Landlord Ordered to Leave his Pub, the Grove

Colin ‘Arbo’ Feavyer, a landlord who has been running a pub for more than 10 years, has been served a possession order to move out from the building, which means that the pub will be closed starting Monday, July 6th.
Mr. Feavyer, aged 55, who has been the owner of The Grove in Cadge Road, Earlham, appeared in front of the Norwich Magistrates’ Court on Monday, June 29nd as he has fell out with Enterprise Inns, a pub company. He was accused of being in breach with company’s contract.
At the hearing, the landlord was told that trading in the pub is to be ceased immediately and that his family has to move out by July 3rd. The keys are also to be handed over to Enterprise Inns on Friday, July 3rd.
Enterprise Inns spokeswoman refused to comment on the situation and on the results of the hearing as she referred to the company’s business relationships with its licensees as confidential.
Mr. Feavyer, the former landlord, said that he has put a lot of time and effort into the business and that is why he still hopes that the company will hire a temporary manager or at least will find a new tenant so that the pub is not left to rot.
Reportedly, the landlord has fallen out with pubco in Christmas, after what he had to purchase beer barrels from other firms. Many pub owners have previously criticized pubco as it has not provided enough support for them during the hard economic times.
It should be noted that about 50% of British pubs are allied to pubcos, which means that these landlords are obliged to buy beer and other supplies from it. The inflated prices of pubco result in the fact that either consumers have to overpay for a pint of beer or pub landlords have to sell beer at a loss.
