Bombardier to Cut Jobs at Its Plant in England

Bombardier lost its battle for the production of trains for Thameslink, which in its turn resulted in job cuts at the company’s plant in England.
The world-famous Canadian aircraft and train maker Bombardier recently announced it will cut jobs at its plant in Derby, England. The company has lost the battle for the governmental contract to German Siemens.
The British government plans to upgrade of the Thameslink lines by adding 1,200 train carriages on this London's key commuter rail service. The cost of the contract won by Siemens is $9.6 billion pounds.
Bombardier said a statement on job cuts will be issued on Tuesday, September 6th. It is expected that the company’s workers as well as union representatives will “stage a series of protests against the Government's controversial decision to award a lucrative train-building contract to German firm Siemens.” “The fight to defend train building in the nation that gave the railways to the world, in the teeth of Government inaction and EU diktat, remains well and truly on,” said Bob Crow of Rail, Maritime and Transport union.
