Brits Ready to Do Anything to Get Pet Insurance Payouts

Shocking figures recently revealed by the Association of British Insurers suggest that Brits are maiming and killing their beloved pets only to get the pets insurance payouts.

As such, fake compensation claims amounted to 2 million pounds in 2010, a four-fold on what was seen in 2009.

The most widespread ways of making a false claim were: killing the pet, selling the animal, arranging fake accidents or making the pet mysteriously disappear.

The most vulnerable part of this process, according to insurance companies, is the pet veterinary records which are almost impossible to trace.

Commenting on the findings, Sarah Bailey of the Association of British Insurers, said: "We have even come across phantom pet insurance cover, where owners claim for pets they’ve never even owned."

Currently, the Association of British Insurers is building a database to keep track of pets insurance fraud and make sure pet medical records are easily accessible.
