George Lee Calls for a Dramatic Cut in the Stamp Duty

Yesterday, on Wednesday, May 20th Fine Gael’s George Lee has called upon the Government to cut the stamp duty tax by 2% as it is supposed to get the property back on track.
His party is planning to officially take the stamp duty reduction plan in the coming weeks. Mr. Lee, who is a former RTE economics editor, held a town-hall meeting in the American style in Dublin South in order to set out his stall prior to the by-election.
Mr. Lee said that he wanted to see the current stamp duty rates of 7%-9% charged on second-hand homes to be decreased to 2%. Party members claim that George Lee has just announced the stamp duty tax cut as an immediate temporary measure that aims to bring some activity to the property market.
Mr. Lee held his meeting yesterday, on May 20th in The Goat Bar and Grill; apart from the stamp duty tax cut he also talked about new investment and employment initiatives.
