More UK Tenants Default on Rent Payments

According to the latest survey carried out by the Association of Residential Lettings Agents (ARLA), as many as 40% of British landlords have reported a rise in the number of tenants who have had payment problems in the past 6 months.
It is important to note that in the last quarter of 2010, the proportion of landlords reporting similar problems only stood at 35.9%.
The statistics revealed by ARLA suggests that tenants in London were less likely to default on their payments even though rents in the capital of Great Britain are the highest and tend to increase faster than in other parts of the country.
Commenting on the results of the survey, Mr. Potter of ARLA said that the organisation's experts have forecasted an increase in the number of tenants in arrears, "and unfortunately, this seems to be the case."
The opinion poll was carried among 554 British letting agents. ARLA Members' Survey of the Private Rented Sector and ARLA Survey of Residential Investment Landlords form ARLA Review and Index.
